Fiddler’s Vineyard

We are sorry to report that as of January 1, 2019, Fiddler’s Vineyard is CLOSED.

After our Christmas in July tasting, we had to pay a visit to one of the vineyards of a well-received holiday wine we shared, Jingle Bells. Little did we know what a treat we were in for during our visit.

Turning onto the Fiddler’s Vineyard property in Cherryville, NC, we felt instantly welcomed. A fun oak barrel sign greeted us from the road, along with row upon row of vines. After parking, we noticed a nice white family house, an eclectic outdoor space—including a stage, bar area, and play set—and multiple groups of vines. Something about this vineyard made us feel at ease, like we were swinging by to visit family. This feeling is explained by the fact that the vineyard is small and family-owned.

Wandering around the grounds, we took in all of the beautiful scenery and whimsical photo-ops. At Fiddler’s Vineyard, their motto is, “Where wine is composed on the vine.” They go on to say, “For us, making wine is a melodious affair. We believe each wine has its own melody, which is why each of our wines has a musical name.” These ideas danced from the tasting room as uplifting music was playing and calling us inside to explore the wines for ourselves.

We were so fortunate to have our tasting experience with Jamie, who had no problem explaining the wide variety of sweet and unusual wines, derived from Muscadine and Scuppernong grapes. Their wide variety includes four chocolate wines, two pepper wines, a watermelon wine, a peppermint wine, an apple wine, and a strawberry wine, among many others. Jamie is the daughter of owners Sherry and Mark. During our tasting, her daughter joined us in the room, asking to play with our son. Did we mention that it felt like we were visiting family? The tasting was very relaxed and packed full of information and tips. For instance, if you’d like a wine slushie to cool you off during hot summer days, just pour a bottle of any Fiddler’s Vineyard wine in a Ziploc bag and place it in the freezer. You don’t need to add any other mixes or specialty bottles to the bag. We recommend their Watermelon Wine for a refreshing summer slushie.

As an added bonus, Fiddler’s Vineyard encourages guests to come see the Fiddler and other musicians play. We missed this opportunity unfortunately, but hope to visit again soon to get the full experience. In addition to performances, the vineyard offers family activities, tours of the grounds, and locally grown fruits.
