Our Toast to the Carolinas

It took some time, but my wife has finally come to enjoy wine. With more than 100 wineries in the Carolinas (over 140 in North Carolina alone), we were intrigued by the idea of being able to visit all of them, enjoying their fine wines, entertaining festivals, and signature charm.

After reading more about our home state of North Carolina’s wineries on NCwine.org, we learned some pretty interesting facts about the grape and wine diversity in the Old North State.

  • No other region in the world grows every major type of grape including vinifera, French-American hybrids, labruscas, and muscadines.
  • The first cultivated grapevine in the United States, known as the “Mother Vine,” began in North Carolina and is still thriving.

Our plan each month is to visit a winery in North or South Carolina. We’ll explore what they have to offer and sample the wines they produce. Then we’ll share our thoughts and photos so you can enjoy a little taste of what we experienced.

A person shouldn’t have to travel far for a crisp or velvety glass of wine. Go local. Drink Carolinas. 🍷
